My husband and I are having a discussion, so I’d like your input without soapboxes if possible near Park Ridge! 😁 We have done so many home projects and organizing, we’d like to have a garage sale. If people practice social distancing and wear masks, would this be a good idea?

I would say wait til after 5/31 if you can! Then yes. We are all anxious to have something to do and somewhere to go. Safely.

I don’t think the city will give you a permit anyway

If you can go to a store with masks on, I don't see why a garage sale following same rules is bad.

Mid summer maybe. But start putting items on Facebook boards. I bet a lot will get snapped up if you do porch pickups

We're just putting garage sale items to one side in our garage for when it is safe to have a sale. I don't see how most/any people would respect social distancing at a garage sale, unfortunately.

If you have one now, Lorie Lightfoot will drive out here and break it up. 😊

I don't think villages are allowing them now.

If I were you I would just use Park Ridge virtual garage sale. 100 times easier. You don’t have to worry about social distancing or weather or critics or anything at all

If you only allowed two people at a time and that they use hand sanitizer before entering i say yes. i bought masks from a woman who only allows one person on her porch at a time and she supplies hand sanitizer to use before picking the mask you want and they are all in individual zip lock bags and you’re allowed to only take the top item.

I like the Facebook Live idea. Post it on Chatter and PRVGS, I bet you'd get people to watch. You'd have to maybe number your items, tho. have you watched how Debi Spelman (Amphora/CoolStuffHalfOff) does it?

I personally would wait till the end of June or July. Hopefully by then everything will be calmer.

Non essential is opening with masks and curbside service. Unfortunately garage sales can't be curbside service. unless like suggested above PRVGS. For full garage sale I would wait until Salvation Army stores and big box department stores re-open. Once they get people used to being out and following the rules, you should be ok. guesstimate early June.

It's just dealing with all that cash worries me. I can't even get people to use PayPal or Zelle on the virtual sites!

Doesn’t sound safe at this time. Just my opinion though.

Yeah I agree - be patient - you have the whole warm weather season ahead of you.

I believe a permit is required for a garage sale in Park Ridge, I’m not sure you will be able to get one. I’ve used the Facebook virtual garage sales- they work well

I would wait until June or July or use the virtual site for now. But just so you know there are some people out there that if you do porch pick up they are not very scrupulous and will just take your stuff and not pay you.

Funny, I just had the same idea, then I read your post. I have sooooo much stuff! Will wait for the all clear and then proceed with caution. And of course, I will get a permit from the city, first. Was thinking to put up police tape and maybe limit the number of shoppers allowed onto my driveway. Maybe provide a Lysol wipe when they enter. Any other precautions?

Host a virtual garage sale.

Do the virtual garage sites. Disinfect the item before placing out. It works. As for the money. Please stop being scared. Do you sanitize your mail when you bring it in ? That’s touched by a lot of people too.

I haven’t read a single comment. As an older guy who’s had a number of these things, I say donate ALL OF IT and write it off. Spend the full week you would have wasted to make $300 on something else. Seriously, after you add in All The hours, it’s like $5 an hour. DONATE THAT SHIT! (Or toss it. ).

I don’t know that you are allowed to! I would wait, before you go through all that work and have it broken up! Good luck!

Wait till the end of June , as long as other stores are open why not , big sign out front , WEAR A MASK! If they don’t politely ask them to get theirs or leave. It’s your property , you have the right to make the wear it to shop . I’m sure people will anyway . Good luck !

Depending on where you live, probably have to wait til stay at home order is lifted. and then do it with the guidelines. IE. Post a sign that says---wear mask, keep 6 feet. and touch at your own risk.
