DOG Question: Have any of you had experience with side effects from the heart worm &/or flea and tick medications by Park Ridge? My pup appeared to be having tremors (or seizure for all I know) yesterday - otherwise her behavior is 100% normal. We gave her the pills yesterday morning. (and yes, I gave her both at the same time)🤨

I gave my dog his flea and tick medicine at the same time as his heartworm meds a couple of months ago. Big mistake. His muzzle swelled and he had these large bumps all over. The vet suggested I give him some Benedryl to make it go away. It worked. Never again. Space it out at least a few days if you can.

My dog had seizures from anything flea and tick related, including collars and homeopathic solutions.

Our vet recommends giving them separately so you know which if either is causing the reaction.

My little dog has always had issues with any flea and tick stuff. Tremors and even has thrown up. I’ve tried lots of different options.

Our vet recommended giving on separate times of the month too. We give one of the meds on the 1st and the other on the 15th of each month.

My dog had low white blood cells (dangerously) when he was about 1 wearing a flea collar. Took the flea collar off and his bloodwork is normal

Have you used both brands before? Did you get from vet? What breed? Did you call vet to report it? Was it the correct dosage weight wise?

I was told never to give them at the same time. I always gave two weeks apart

Call you vet or the emergency hotline for animals to be safe

That is definitely a side effect from the meds. Call the vet and let them know.

I read to never use: Simparica by Zoetis. It caused a dog to die of seizures.

What kind of flea/tick prevention are you using? Friends of ours have a Sheppard who had seizures after being on Nexgard.

Our chihuahua became epileptic a few months after I first gave him flea & tick treatment, but I can’t say it caused it for sure. Regardless, it took 3 “incidents” before they diagnosed him as epileptic and put him on meds. Keep an eye on her and video the tremors if possible, and get any eye movement documented as well. I would call the vet just to be safe.

I just use the stuff you put on her coat/skin . I do not use oral flea tick treatment because I feel it is overkill. And I only use it every other month because it works for fleas for 2 months.
