We need laptop buying help in Park Ridge. We need to upgrade our old laptop since it is now where school happens. I researched and want a Chromebook. I really want to buy from Abt because of their customer service but they don’t have anything bigger than a 12 inch screen in stock until “maybe mid-May”. Target has no selection. Amazon is overwhelming. Best Buy is barely staying afloat so it concerns me if we have any trouble down the road. Where am I missing? Help!

CDW sells lots of them. Though they’re known as a supplier of IT to business, they will sell to anyone!

Most retailers will defer to the manufacturer for customer service once it’s sold. So you can literally buy it wherever you want. our last two were purchased on Amazon, one was purchased from Costco

We bought a HP Chromebook from Amazon because most retailers are low on stock. We’ve have great luck with it.

Are you upgrading because you don’t have windows 10? I upgraded my 2 laptops to windows 10 at Office Max for $190

For a better chance at local inventory, try Micro Center or Fry's. What is wrong with your old one? It should do video conferencing (zoom or whatever) just fine. Or do you need an extra one now? Anything that can do video conferencing (tablet with camera, laptop with camera, or even plug-in web cameras are in short supply, as you are finding out.

We have an Asus laptop (not a chromebook) that works well.

Doesn’t matter if Best Buy goes under. U can go to any repair shop with the manufacturer’s warranty.

We love the HP Chromebook we have. Bought from Amazon. This one is similar. https://www.target.com/.../hp-14-34-touch.../-/A-76374195

Personally I would never buy a Chromebook because I limit my use of Google. Not an ethical company! I'd pay a little more and get a real laptop.

Best Buy - curb side pick up is excellent.

Christine this all depends on where you want to end up. Like Frank (above) I’m not a fan of a stripped down computer running the chrome O/S. What do the kids need. If you have older laptops that are windows 7 you may be eligible for a free windows 10 upgrade. Depends on what the computer was originally sold with. You can usually look at the sticker on the button to check. If the performance is lacking there are two easy changes that can make a world of difference. First, does the computer have a SSD (solid state drive) or a traditional HDD( hard frisk drive)? The latter is more likely and this is about a $60-$90 replacement and makes the biggest impact. Next I’d check to see if you have 8gb of ram. If not, and the computer supports it this is about a $50 upgrade that makes a big difference. If you’re set on a chrome book, thenn you can have two options for screens. You can get adapters that will connects to a TV (if you have a spare or you can get an add on. . https://www.bhphotovideo.com/.../asus_mb169b_15_6.../

We bought a Chromebook and I didn’t realize how limited you are on it. My kids play Fortnite and you can’t play that on a Chromebook. I don’t think you can play Minecraft either. I would never buy another Chromebook.

Our old one is running Windows 8. 1. It requires constant updating that can take hours. The camera doesn’t work. We don’t need anything fancy. We only use it for the internet and video chatting. No gaming, etc. That’s why I was leaning toward chromebook.

MacBook Pro is the best laptop I’ve ever had hands down. More expensive, but totally worth it. Mine is going on 5 years old and it’s like new. My daughter got one 5 years ago as well, before she went to college. While studying abroad in Europe her screen went dead. She took it to an Apple store in London while traveling and they got it fixed in 24 hrs and it was under warranty so no charge.
