Good day Park Ridge peeps! I want to thank everyone that responded to my request for a sewing machine! Y’all as so awesome. I was hoping I could share another request & give you a great motivation to get to Spring cleaning! I am almost completely out of supplies to continue making and donating masks and ear savers. This is a full time labor of love for me and other committed sewers. I’ve been going strong for a month now, but shipping is really delayed, supplies are becoming harder and harder to find anywhere. the requests are now in the thousands each week. The thousands of masks distributed over the past month already need to be replaced. I am desperate to continue helping without delays due to not having enough supplies! I have shifted my focus to making mask for our community and workers. This included taking on requests from facilities that have specifications which I am struggling with - due to limited availability. (advocate) Here is where you come in! Please search your home for all your sewing items that you don’t use anymore. If your grandma had a jar of buttons. if you have an extra pair of scissors in your junk drawer. please consider donating them. That fabric with the print that you never liked might make an awesome mask for someone that needs one! Below is a list of items that I use and people on my sewing team need on an ongoing basis. Donations needed: Gift cards to Joanne Fabrics, Kenz Laurenz, Amazon, Target and Walmart. Shipping & delivery costs (money donations) 100% cotton fabric (tightly woven) Flannel Cotton flat shoelaces 1/4 elastic (or similar size) 1” elastic - any color! 1/2” or larger buttons (prefer closer to an inch) No fuse interfacing (cannot be sprayed with glue or chemicals - this is just an extra protective layer) in white and black. “Yoga cotton” (for headbands) 1” ribbon (heavy duty. Nothing slick or shiny) Thread (heavy duty) black & white most needed but all is welcome. No “quilting thread” it does not hold up well. Embroidery floss. Sewing machine needles & bobbins. (Universal is fine) Hand sewing needles (a variety) Scissors Cutting mats (I currently have 6 people available to cut but only 3 pairs of sewing sheets) Rolling cutters (we need to be faster! ) Fabric pens Ziplock snack, sandwich, quart and gallon plastic bags to organize & keep clean for delivery. Pipe cleaners Jewelry wire. If anyone local wants to volunteer to help, I will do a “safe”drop off of items to be cut or assembled and safe pick up when done. I make it super easy (cardboard templates to cut etc). Everything you need is delivered to you & picked up! Easy! If you or a loved one is a frontline worker, essential worker, or medically at risk person and needs a mask, you can put in a requests for items at The Mask Fairy. 🧚‍♂️ Photo description: completed headbands in various colors awaiting attachment of buttons to “save the ears” of the overworked mask wearers!

I have about 260 yards of 1/4 inch elastic. How much would you and your group like? I can put it out on my porch in Norwood Park.

Are you in Park Ridge? I could help but only at night after my twins are in bed and I'm done with my own essential job.

I gave u some stuff but can go back and look for more cloth to repurpose. More sheets in shirt material and flannel? I probably have some shoe laces and can give more thread. Also happy to pay for a couple masks to help u raise money.

I have three bags of material… I think most of it is cotton… Not sure though. I will be willing to cut for you if you give me the measurements. Would you be able to pick up? May not happen in the next day or two, but I can cut a little every day and let you know when I have a bunch.

I have this roll of elastic material. Ponytail holders are sometimes made from it. If it’s useful it is yours. I’m in PR.

I have about 35 buttons that size and some thread and needles if you want. Out of curiosity, how are you using interfacing? As a removable filter? Or down inside the mask?
