I am in desperate need of gift ideas for my daughter turning 12 in Park Ridge. I have read through internet lists and either she has it, done it, or it would not interest her. We just redid her room. She doesn’t like pink or bright colors generally, and is not hugely into art/projects. She reads a ton so she always gets a couple books, but mainly uses the library. Any unique ideas? Roughly $100 or less and some in the $25-40 range as well for family. Thank you!

How about one of those mini Polaroid instant cameras? They are popular with my daughter and her friends who are 13, and they come in cute colors. . https://www.bestbuy.com/.../fujifilm-instax.../6092904.p

I got my daughter a ticket to a musical she wanted to see. Of course it meant I had to buy myself a ticket to the musical as well, but I did not mind. 🙂 Does she have a hover board? There is an attachment to make the hover board into a go cart. My nieces have that and they love it!

Does she have a kindle? If she loves reading you can download books to the kindle directly from the library. My daughter got one for Christmas and is in heaven since she doesn’t have to wait for me to take her to the library to get a new book.

I love the kindle idea. And if she doesn’t have a kindle maybe purchase her one. or get a Barnes and Noble gift card and take her there to use it at Old Orchard and do a nice mother- daughter lunch or dinner at one of the nice restaurants there!

I bought one of these for each of my kids for Christmas (7-14yo - they have a kids’ one too). They LOVE them and the ones who were not enthusiastic readers have read several books since Christmas! My non-stop reader absolutely LOVES it! (He happily scratched off all the ones he’s already read! ) There are some books on the “adult” poster that they are not allowed to read yet, but they don’t mind. . https://www.uncommongoods.com/.../100-books-scratch-off

I have a 9yr old and since last year when she got a dog we don't do gift anymore. We do stuff together, as we have so many things in the house we decided to not get more things, but create memories. So maybe take her somewhere she hasn't been before. Galos caves on Irving park it's a salt cave, more like a spa day, look on Groupon for kids activities, a cooking class maybe or a photography class for kids or surprise her with a mini trip to a place she would like to go

Have you taken her to the Harold Washington Library, 400 S. State Street, Chicago, 312/747-4300. It is something to see.

There's no age limit on having fun at Brookfield Zoo or the aquarium/oceanarium. I was going to say a trip to Barnes & Noble or Half Price Books but all of the mother daughter craft projects and cooking classes, spa/salon days others mentioned in here sound awesome, so does the horseback riding lesson 😃 good luck, happy birthday to your kiddo

An LED light kit for her bedroom? They can change the colors with a push of a button. They’re very cool.

Does she have wireless earbuds so she can listen to her music from her phone? Hannah got an aroma diffuser that makes relaxing sounds and changes colors, she said it was a favorite.

Tickets to a concert or another event. Spending time together = better than “stuff” 🙂

I always say to go on a date. I’d rather go spend time with the kids than get more stuff. Goldstar, LivingSocial and Groupon always have theater tickets, outings, food tastings and fun adventures for less than the regular price!

Blue man group tickets. Also just went to an indoor rock climbing place in Glendale heights and it was really fun for my kids. I also let my kids surf Groupon for ideas.

We did a sushi making class through the chopping block for Christmas (class was last week) and she loved it. She’s the oldest of three and loved some one on two time with her parents. (Of course that’s an assumption because no 13yo admits this).
