Resident complaints about early morning snow removal noise lead Park Ridge aldermen to discuss restrictions https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/park-ridge/ct-prh-snow-removal-noise-tl-0206-20200130-jjgakisdgrhanbskticxrv4gse-story.html?fbclid=IwAR3wh1Hydo9wds_H35bMYPe_xJgrSk4y5qbbWRzpfMCmblOKbVd9-Dp9D3Q

Same issue for many residents . Awaken at 3-4 AM for no good reason . Some people are just ignorant . Snow can be cleaned at 7 AM also .
You can’t have it every way. Some people in park ridge don’t work 9-5 and have to leave their houses before 7. If the noise is an issue then don’t complain when kids are and dog walkers can’t use the sidewalks.
Privileged First World problem. Be happy they're clearing their snow!
Not everyone works 9-5 and what about the city snow plows? They tend to wake us up too? Wintertime we just need to overlook the noise and let people get the snow cleared.
I walk my dog at stupid o’clock and I’d be thrilled to see cleared sidewalks. Heck, I’d be happy to see cleared sidewalks any time of day. I slipped so many times today because of the snow over the uncleared walks from last week. Stay safe out there!
Listen don't complain about the lawnmower they'll complain about the snow blower those are people that just have nothing better to do but to complain. Why don't you go to f****** CVS and buy a pair of f****** ear plugs? Even better yet, who was complaining just go buy yourself a muzzle!
A white noise machine will do wonders for these folks!

I think that some people need to get a real problem - geez! 🙄
Something for the Aldermen to discuss. A lawn that’s not mowed will not stop people getting to work at 7am. A driveway full of snow will. I have a 120’ driveway. I have started my snowblower at 6, to get to work only when necessary, which is 2-3 times a winter. Can’t wait to see the results of the Aldermans discussions.
Let people clear snow when they can, it needs to be done early sometimes.
#parkridgeproblems Maybe they are helping their elderly neighbors.
Mowing your lawn at 6am VS snow blowing is totally different. You can’t plan when snow falls and people need to go to work. This is a joke 😂
There actually is a good reason for them to be clearing snow at 2-3 AM and that’s because snow needs to be cleared by 7 AM when rush hour starts. These private contractors don’t just have your neighbor as their single client. They’ve got 3-5 hours worth of clients to serve so they must allow time to get to all of them. The city council allows for snow removal at all hours. I get it that it’s an inconvenience at times, but it’s part of living in Chicago. It’s a good rule. Snow removal should be allowed whenever snow needs to be removed.
Come on. The airplanes and trucks drown out any snowblower noise!
Really? 🙄
I blew snow for 7 of my neighbors 2 weeks ago- 5 were out of town. 10:00pm
Want to blow snow in the middle of the night ? Get the new electric Toro . It’s that easy if you are not ignorant!
Agree with JC Carlos. Also contractors prefer to work when there is less traffic and less people out. Years ago a woman was hit and killed by a plow truck in a Jewel parking lot. Then a few years ago in the hospital parking lot. People will just walk in front of your truck when your plowing. Much better to plow when most are home still asleep.
This topic and all of the posts about it are another example of why very few people want to run for alderman. Hysterical!
Kathy Meade not at all. If the homeowner needs to blow their snow at 3am so they can get out of their garage. BIG DEAL!
I love the title of this article, "Resident complains. " Yep, all this effort and back and forth over one cranky person. Next thing you know, this person will be complaining again this summer that the sun is too bright too early in the morning.
Get a sound machine. 🙄
These Earplugs work great! https://images.app.goo.gl/8JGqmGh6sT8RP1Xt7
Rich people problems lol what a bunch of crybabies
No restrictions on snow removal.
I think the logic on prompt snow removal is to ensure there isn't ice build up, as much as it can be prevented.
Who do they think works for the snow removal companies that are out in the middle of the night plowing the snow? I bet dollars to donuts that these people have regular day jobs because they can’t live on snow plowing income alone. So it kind of HAS to be done in the wee hours of the morning if you use a service. 🤷♀️
One thing I really hate is how loud my neighbors HVAC is during the summer 🙄 we really need to start talking about real problems. Restrict AC usage to only 12am-1am!
Most of us work for a living. If I can’t clear the snow before work then everyone will complain that my sidewalk is not clear since I live by a school.
Tom thst also happened on the block I previously lived on. All because 1 person parked there for the train instead of using the train lots. Now it’s resident sticker parking.
WTF? I'm only too happy (and actually expect noise if it's needed) when it's done early. It doesn't actually snow that often.
Our service (and many others) goes to residential properties after commercial (bigger payers) so it’s late at night. We have a contract and time constraints aren’t included. Will the city replace this service during more convenient hours for us after they buy out our contract?
Come by and ask two of the oldest people in town, my 90 and 96 year old neighbors, if they’re bothered by it! They’re grateful it’s done when they want to go out.
Cathalyne Restivo Spina most often it’s because they wait for the snow fall to begin to subside then they do their higher paying commercial lots and then condos, etc. My bro was in the business for a decade.
If there is any action on this, it should only be in the sense of ensuring that people take reasonable steps to minimize noise during odd hours, and even that probably isn't necessary.
Give me a break. Would you rather the snow shoveled or fall in snow covered sidewalks.
Appreciate the background. How would the council expect homeowners to enforce compliance with snow removal companies?
Complain of too early and complain too late. Isn’t anyone happy anymore? Be thankful these people are out making roads and sidewalks safer. It’s not an easy job. Let’s see. years ago we all hand shoveled today hardly anyone shovels their walk. When I walk my dog I’m struggling in the ice building up too. So be thankful to those out and working hard.

Earplugs, people. Every Park Ridge resident should have a pair.
Nonsense.
I mean, Park Ridge COULD solve all our problems by taking a play out of Holland, Michigan’s playbook. https://www.holland.org/snow-free-holland
I feel relieved when I hear them.
I am doing it as early as possible so the people who walk to the train station do not have to walk on the street . I start by my neighbor house and go all the way to Virginia st. If the people do not like I clean thier sidewalk too bad 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Kathy Meade I can afford to pay but prefer to do it myself. I try to avoid obnoxious hours but sometimes it’s not possible. 3am or 5am doesn’t change anything for those who sleep till 7, same disturbance. When I do get up at 4 am to do it so my family can have a clean safe exit from our home, I go ahead and do my two immediate neighbors homes as well. Except for John, he is a strapping young lad who can do it himself and he is too laid back to complain anyway. Point is, it’s only several times a year and a necessary evil sometimes.
Wait, businesses remove their snow? Someone tell Enterprise Rental Car.
I’m not buying the Trib to read this story. Please !
My neighbors are awesome!
Mother Nature please snow after 7am and before 7pm Thank you
I am all out of evens with people who would complain about stuff like this. Like how can you just not be relieved that the snow is getting cleared and leave it at that?
If you put to many restrictions on the private companies maybe they will not want to bother with Park Ridge and residents will be left to clear their own snow 😂😂😂.
This seems a little ridiculous. Yes, losing sleep once in a while is a temporary inconvenience, but having people slip and fall on snow and ice poses a bigger risk. There are people who have to start work very early in the morning and the only way to get there is to plow their driveway so they can get their car out. It’s not going to fly if a person calls in late to work because they couldn’t get their car out because they weren’t allowed to plow their driveway for fear of angering their neighbor. Life has many ups and owns, and there are people with far greater problems than losing a few hours of sleep a few times a year. A little common sense and understanding goes a long way.
Everybody is busy. be glad your neighbors are being responsible home owners We have neighbors that don't do anything How about a ticket for that?
That is a joke
Jim Argionis I would rather the city concentrate on clearing our roads.
Omg this so ridiculous! Just roll over and go back to bed.
I can’t believe an alderman would think of passing a regulation like this? I can’t wait to sue Park Ridge when somebody God Forbids falls?
My mother always taught me to respect the working man or woman!
I love the sounds of snowplows in the early morning hours. Thanks to all of the hard workers who help us get our children to school and us to work safely. ⛄️
At least they are shoveling; I mean cmon
I always thought that it was quite fun for all the neighbors to be outside late at night or early in the morning during a huge snow storm. Everyone helping each other to clear the snow. I’m happy to live on a great block where neighbors helping neighbors is still firmly a tradition. Wether it’s 11pm, or later, or 5 am or even earlier. we don’t get enough snow to complain.
Kent Mackowiak came here to post this exact meme too lol
How dare people clean their driveways so that kids can get to school and parents can get to work? They should put a restriction so that the skies cannot allow snow unless it's between 8am and 8pm
