I have friends staying downtown Chicago next month and they are looking for a ‘unique, fun place to eat’ in Park Ridge. They’ve been to Chicago several times, married couple, and money isn’t typically an obstacle. Any recommendations I can pass along?

Haven’t eaten there in years but Alhambra is really neat, Carnivale has incredible atmosphere (but has been around forever), Beatnik very cool decor and good food (have only been to one in West Town). Honestly go into some of the neighborhoods like on Lawrence for Korean food or on Devon for Indian or Pakistani. Or, Pilsen for Mexican.

Aba, Purple Pig. Also, if they are really looking for a culinary experience (expensive and different) - Alinea for food and Aviary for cocktails.

Beatnik is amazing and they recently opened a new place called Porto with traditional Galician/portuguese also in west town. Aba is great. Cabra for peruvian. Most of these places I would suggest looking for open table/reso ahead of time!

Eataly. A two story Italian food store with 6 or 7 different places to eat. More like a food court for great Italian food.

Do they appreciate art? My son is a chef at Fulton Market Kitchen in the west loop. It is a restaurant and art gallery- fun, not stuffy. Sometimes they have artists painting. The decor is amazing -the bar is lots of suitcases mounted together, one of the bars has wooden chairs arranged as shelves, all artwork is for sale and there is some cool stuff. Not sure when but Restaurant week is coming- maybe later in Feb and almost any Chicago rest. is gonna require a rsvp for dinner.

Funkenhausen is one of the most unique places I’ve encountered. German-Southern American fusion with eclectic cocktails, natty wine, and boots of beer. Gorgeous space too, very cozy.
