So…Would this be considered an OK boomer remark in Park Ridge? Don’t you use PayPal or Venmo? This is 2020! Should I be offended? Thoughts on PayPal and Venmo please

No one really uses PayPal to be honest. Venmo and Quick pay are just instant ways to pay someone. I know people of all ages who use this for quick payment. It’s a not a boomer/millennial thing. It’s just convenient and easy. No one writes checks anymore, or often has cash in hand at the moment. You don’t have to mail it or wait until you see said person to exchange funds. You can send money no matter where you are or they are. People even pay rent via these platforms now. Edited to add I mean no one uses PayPal to Pay each other like you would with venmo or Zelle. Yes it’s used on eBay, and other websites.

Yes. PayPal, Venmo and Zelle are very common and very convenient once you set it up and start using it. Don’t fight this one. If you bank at a major bank, Zelle is probably built into the app.

I try really hard not to be offended when confronted with things I’ve not tried yet. Try to take it as a learning experience. I figure if my 95 year old grandma can do Facebook I can try and except new ways to do things

PayPal also has an app called Xoom - excellent way to send money overseas and much cheaper than bank fees.

I use Paypal to pay for things I buy online, like from Wish, etc. I use Zelle to quickpay people like my kids for stuff they pick up from the store etc.

Venmo and Zelle are great. Very convenient. Like when we go out to lunch as a group, and all this money and people need change, and splitting cards etc. Its a pain. One person puts it on their card, (gets the points) and the rest just venmo/Zelle for their portion. Works great for groups

It is kind of annoying when I owe my kids money and I say I’ll write your check or give you cash and they say VENMO me mom!

The set up and fear that it’s not secure is where you lose older folks.

I am just going to say that I don't like on Venmo how I can see who paid who and for what. That's just me and I am not a Boomer :D

No that shouldn’t offend you. It’s a simple remark. It’s not like they straight up said “ Gosh, your so old. It’s 2020 and you haven’t figured out PayPal yet ? “ Now that would be rude.

PayPal bought Venmo a few years ago so they do share alot of similar features. Venmo is popular because there are no costs to pay people. Both PayPal and Venmo have a debit card you could apply for that makes it pretty easy in my experience to use those funds right away at a grocery store or atm. But to be clear I work at the PayPal Chicago office. I'm not trying to sell anyone on it but happy to answer questions as a small business owner who uses PayPal and as a helpful neighbor.

Zelle works great. Since transactions are bank to bank, they are somewhat more secure and may be insured. IMHO it is the “grown up” version of Venmo.

Don't like either. They both charge. Zelle never charges and you don't have to provide banking info. Love Zelle.

We love Zelle. My daughter is a server and I use it almost daily to deposit her cash tips (which she hands over to me 🤗)

Used Splitwise on a girls vacation. Added our own receipts and it splits it up for you then payment is made through Venmo.

I use both but I’ve been told to only use Venmo with people you know and trust. Be sure whoever you send $ to, that it’s actually the person you intend especially if they have a common name. Don’t want to send $ to the wrong person!

Analia Beltran-Lang Venmo and Zelle are for money transfers to friends or someone you owe money too. not for paying for things like you use your credit card for. very different applications!

I used to use PayPal for almost everything I could, including reoccurring payments. Then they thought my company's account violated their terms of service (it didn't), so they froze it. Then they somehow associated my personal account with the company's account and froze that one too. We attempted to protest, they wouldn't acknowledge the protest. We removed the PayPal option from our website as they requested, but they still will not release either account. I will never use PayPal again. Venmo and Zelle all the way!

Both are easy. All that matters is that people can pay you electronically. I find using whichever your bank uses the easiest. Download your bank app and pay from your phone.

Live by Venmo now. We pay our tutor, hairdresser, send money to college kids, parents. My teens showed me how to use it and it's been amazing. No more running to the bank for cash.
