Maxon’s just upgraded their range. Very nice now. North shore sport club, Lake Forest has a nice one.

Since neither of you have a FOID card or any firearms experience, I would contact the range of your choosing and arrange for a private one on one safety course and instruction prior to any live fire. Handling firearms and shooting is nothing to be taken lightly. With the right instruction the shooting of firearms can be a very enjoyable experience.

Shoot Point Blank. Best range hands down. Clean, friendly, bright, excellent customer service. Naperville, Hodgkins, Mokena, Shorewood, Merrillville. Indy North. And all across America. They offer CCL and other training cert courses. They have monthly memberships. Gun and range rental is cheap. They have the latest guns available for rental. From AR's to Desert Eagle 50cal. I have been to many ranges. Shoot Point Blank by far is the best in the industry. The range itself has 20 bays. Top of the line air intake and exhaust. No nasty smell. Very well lit and maintained. I am there 3-4 times per week. I have my FOID and CCL. Hit me up with any questions you may have. If you are interested in trying it out for free let me know. I can bring you as a guest. You can shoot any gun you desire in the rental case. Or bring your own. They have great prices on ammo also. https://shootpointblank.com/

They also have a variety of targets for purchase. ******************************************************************************** Also - Unlike other ranges like GAT's, MAXON and ARTICLE II. At Shoot Point Blank you are NOT required to have a second shooter with you if you rent a gun. This is a suicide prevention policy mandated by certain insurance companies. Shoot Point Blank has been in business the longest and has a perfect track record. So, if you have your FOID and you want to shoot a rental but don't have a buddy to come with you? No problem. Come on in. Show your Government issued ID and FOID and shoot all day long. ******************************************************************************** I am there 3-4 times per week. I have my FOID and CCL. Hit me up with any questions you may have. If you are interested in trying it out for free let me know. I can bring you as a guest. You don't need a FOID as a guest. Just a Government issued ID. I am trained in Family Firearm Safety, Firearm Cleaning, Intro to Firearms, Basic Handgun and Advanced Handgun. ( Oh, and no, I do not work there :) ) https://shootpointblank.com/

Please be advised that new applicant FOID cards will take anywhere between 30 and 60 days to obtain your actual FOID card after you apply online. The state is backed up with new applicant requests. If you are applying for a CCL the wait is up to 6 months. The ISP and State are addressing this issue. But not quickly enough. (430 ILCS 65/5) (from Ch. 38, par. 83-5) Sec. 5. Application and renewal. (a) The Department of State Police shall either approve or deny all applications within 30 days from the date they are received, except as provided in subsection ( b. of this Section, and every applicant found qualified under Section 8 of this Act by the Department shall be entitled to a Firearm Owner's Identification Card upon the payment of a $10 fee. Any applicant who is an active duty member of the Armed Forces of the United States, a member of the Illinois National Guard, or a member of the Reserve Forces of the United States is exempt from the application fee. $6 of each fee derived from the issuance of Firearm Owner's Identification Cards, or renewals thereof, shall be deposited in the Wildlife and Fish Fund in the State Treasury; $1 of the fee shall be deposited in the State Police Services Fund and $3 of the fee shall be deposited in the State Police Firearm Services Fund. ( b. Renewal applications shall be approved or denied within 60 business days, provided the applicant submitted his or her renewal application prior to the expiration of his or her Firearm Owner's Identification Card. If a renewal application has been submitted prior to the expiration date of the applicant's Firearm Owner's Identification Card, the Firearm Owner's Identification Card shall remain valid while the Department processes the application, unless the person is subject to or becomes subject to revocation under this Act. The cost for a renewal application shall be $10 which shall be deposited into the State Police Firearm Services Fund. (Source: P. A. 100-906, eff. 1-1-19. )
