My laundry dryer stopped producing heat around Park Ridge. Trying to decide if I should try to fix it or just get a new one. It's old and I have repaired it once already. What is average cost to just get someone out to even look at it?

Is the dryer vent clean? Sometimes going outside and cleaning lint from the vent solves this problem.

Like Tina said check the exhaust pipe for your dryer. When clogged it will not produce the heat and the clothes will be damp.

I had that problem last year. It’s probably a sensor that can be easily changed. The sensor can be bought at Automatic Appliance in Norridge for about $20. You can get a how-to on You Tube.

If it’s a gas dryer it could be one of 3 really easy things, it could be the gas relay, it could be the temp sensor or it could be the gas igniter. Any of the 3 are less than $50 to fix easily yourself with minimal tools and there are abundant YouTube videos to show you how. I fixed mine for $15. Don’t give up too easy.

Same with ours. Hammer Appliance came out, no fee to do so, and fixed it for $125.

Consider after market appliance stores. I bought a dryer for $175 versus the $175 I spent repairing a 15 yr old wash machine. Now both are going strong so it may have been a wash no pun intended. I also got the Same model of each bcuz why wouldn't I buy the model that will not die again

So I just bought one at ABT $800 Whirlpool front load that worked with my old pedestal. When they delivered it - I found out it didn’t have a light inside when you open the door. That really bothered me - it felt like I bought the cheapest dryer. So I went back to abt and exchanged it w a better model and paid $130 for upgrade. They switched them out. In hind sight - I wish I had bought a new dryer when my washer died a year ago. I never thought the dryer matching my washer would be gone a year later. Unavailable anywhere.

I use Don's Appliances. He came out last year to replace a belt on my dryer- and told me to never let it go. They don't make dryers like that anymore- just fix it when something goes wrong! ( and he could have sold me a new one)
