My parents went to Costco as well not cheap by any means but highly recommend you get the warranty. Anything can happen to them and it is covered. For instance, my dog at the time was only 1 yr old and decided to chew up both hearing aids that my mom left on the night stand. That was a good $1, 200 loss but with insurance it was free to replace.
My grandfather got his at Beltone (He loved his audiologist) but we got batteries at Costco. I don't think you don't have to have a costco membership to use their pharmacy, care or hearing care. Replacing 1 hearing aid that went bad was between $2k-$3k at Beltone.
I’ve been wearing hearing aids for years. Costco hands down was the best exam (they are state regulated and have to provide a very thorough exam) as well as best prices and service.
