I have a question - We just got a wedding shower invite which read they “will not be registering for gifts within Park Ridge. Your presence is all that’s needed”. The couple lives out of state, but she is from here - they are in their early forties. His 2nd wedding - her first. I can’t imagine not giving a gift. Has anyone done this or been to a shower where gifts were not wanted? Shouldn’t it just be an invitation to dinner if that’s the case?

Gift of money, they don't need stuff, they need money

Maybe it’s their way of trying to ask for cash 🤷‍♀️

Sounds like they just didn't want stuff, only money.

I would still give them cash

They probably have all they need. Plus if they're out of state travel with gifts would be a nightmare. I'd still give a card with money or gift card

Agree. I could not, not bring a gift. Maybe get them a nice gift card or good ol’ cash 😉

That's weird, why have a shower then? I'd donate to a charity in their name

Just wants to celebrate it’s her first wedding though I’d still put some $$ in an envelope and say it’s for good luck best wishes I’m Italian there’s always $$ in “la busta”😉

If they say no gifts, I don’t bring a gift. It makes it awkward for everyone. Send money for a wedding gift.

They simply just don’t need more crap and I totally get that! They probably already have doubles of everything. Give money, a gift card or an experience.

The way restaurants have been closing I'd be reluctant to give a gift card! Cash or a donation to a charity in their area that you know they support might be nice.

I would never go to a shower/wedding/birthday party/celebration of someone and not bring a gift. If they say no gift, I wouldn’t hide them a physics gift, but I’d give cash or a gift card for a nice dinner.

This would confuse me as I’ve always thought the idea of a shower is to “shower them with gifts. ” As someone who had a second marriage in my late 30s I didn’t need much of anything either but people insisted I have a shower because I eloped the first time. I registered and then was told to go put more on the registry because I didn’t have enough the first time. I’d still give a gift card or donation.

It's her first wedding and she deserves to be showered with gifts. Money

I was thinking money. You could always put a note in there telling them its a little something to put toward their honeymoon.

Find out the charities they support and make a donation in their honor, then let them know.

It’s bizarre having a shower with no gifts. They should of said “in lieu of a shower. dinner or get together. ” the fact that they’re still calling it a shower but saying no gifts, I’d give money. If they weren’t calling it a shower and said no gifts then I wouldn’t give anything.

It’s hard to say to people “just bring money. ” I would give a card with money. Maybe they want to save for a honeymoon. I don’t like the donation idea. Everyone can always use $$$.

They probably just want to be with friends. If you want to give something give cash. Getting a bunch of gift cards can be a pain. People lose them or they sit in the wallets forever.
