Seeking Advice: We are hoping to grow grass this spring/ summer in Park Ridge. Does anyone have tips? Recommend grass seed? Best time to start? Thanks! 😊

My best advice is water every other day otherwise it won’t grow and it won’t look good. I got a timer from ace hardware that you set. Up and it goes off automatically early in the morning so more of the water stays it doesn’t evaporate In the shady areas it will stoop Look kind of scrappy but that’s just the way it is. Fertilizer with dandelion control is good too.

Got one of these at least they also make a two outlet model. If you not water Or are not a regular water er these work great. Remove batteries in the fall keep in the basement if you put them In the garage what ever water is in them will freeze and bust the housing. Good luck.

Park Ridge has a lot of clay in the soil. Have a landscape company come and aerate the lawn before you spread the seed. Seed falls into the little holes and the lawn will fill in really fast. Use a good starter fertilizer as well. I do mine every spring and/or fall. Works great.

I've done this plenty of times. Here's what works for me: rake up the area so the dirt is loose, apply a generous amount of seed (I used Scott's sun & shade mix), sprinkle a light amount of dirt on top of the seed so the seed is completely covered. I usually seed when the temps will be in the mid 50s. Water every day for 7-10 days, once every other day after that.
