Has anyone had good luck negotiating a new car in Park Ridge? I went to two different Toyota dealerships today to buy a new Rav4 thinking this is a great time to do it since it's the end of the year, and they would not come down more then $1-$2K off the sticker price and let me walk out of both with no negotiating at all.

I read somewhere they only have a small margin to negotiate on new cars. You may fail better negotiating the trade in cost.
Same thing happened to us while trying to buy a suburban. The guy told my husband, “no one negotiates anymore. The price is the price. ” They also let us walk out. We ended up Going back and getting it but only for $900 less than sticker price. 🤷🏻♀️
Do an online search. It will tell you all the prices in the state. Then you call the one who has the price you like. My boss did that and ended up taking metra down to crystal lake to pick it up. Negotiation still takes place just differently
Dealers don’t make much money on car sales unless it’s used car dealership. And with computers, everyone’s prices are competitive.
If your a Costco member go through them. Great pricing
This is all bs, their is always a negotiation price. All dealerships can move to a price especially if they want to hit the numbers for the year. When its gets closer to the new year they will. Or go on truecar. com and fill out the info and you will get the best price
The more flexible you are the more you can negotiate. We’ve had luck negotiating when we’ve been flexible on color and trim level. Also we got a huge discount for using their financing (this was with Mitsubishi). It was 0% so while we didn’t want debt we took it on because it brought us down another $1K.
And they wonder why peolle are now looking at places other than dealerships to purchase cars like Carvana! So sad. If it keeps going this way alot of people will be out of jobs.
Always room to negotiate. I email all dealers in the area with the specific car and options I want. Had two tell me you will never get anyone to go below x price. Within a few weeks I had three others lower than that price and then each of those three worked to get the best deal for me. Might have to go a bit further to pick up your new car but be persistent and check with as many dealers as possible comparing apples to apples (same options to same options).
Use one of the apps and it helps you find the model you want and location. We’ve had better luck at Toyota dealers other than the one in PR.
Fields Lexus sold 19 cars on Monday. They were wiped out of inventory when I was looking yesterday. They were dealing but now there isn't much left.
Toyota of Lincoln Park. PM me and I will tell you who to ask for.
Salesmanship is absolutely dead. No one knows how to ask the customer what they need or want. Shopping for a new car has become a joke. The best thing you can do is give a low offer and walk out. I guarantee they will call back. Coming from a guy who has been in the industry for 15 years
I have a friend at Lombard Toyota if you want his info me hubby partner and two friends all bought from him last two months
Did you try to go through Costco?
Go through Costco!
Toyota sucks for dealing. They wouldn’t budge when I was looking either. They lost my business.
2k off on a new car is not bad. Pre owned cars are a different story.
Go to dealership A and work on their best pricing. Then go to dealership B and show them the quote from A and ask if they can beat it. Get a quote from B and go to dealership C and see if they can beat it. If they can, go back to A and see if they can beat dealership C.
I bought my car with Costco auto program. I got very good deal about $4000 off
I have had good luck going out of state. You still have to pay IL taxes, but found I could save thousands. Even had the vehicle delivered to my house.
If you want it right away you've given up your negotiation. If you wait it out and truly research and be willing to take a car off the lot (no special orders) you will find a deal. End of Jan or Feb is probably a better time as well.
Carmax in Kenosha
They do not negotiate the price anymore. I just bought a car
Skip going to the dealer and call them. Sages you time and let’s you know if they’re flexible to get you in the store
Do your internet research and go in with information - they have an internet guy to deal with if you find deals elsewhere - Honda has an internet guy and we wheeled and sealed with them
Cargurus. com
Are you looking for a 2019 or 2020? If they have any 2019s left you may get a better deal as they need to get rid of them.
Costco card? Contact them. they do a good deal.
The days of negotiations are over with. You were fortunate that they came down the Grand. They were probably going to pull out the floor mats and the side impact moldings. If you internet shop you’ll only find about $200 dollar differences between five different dealers

The Rav was pretty hot when I shopped back in Aug, so dealers don't budge a lot, esp if they are flying out the door. Do internet price history and get comfortable with a number. Don't forget you'll get the squeeze on the extended warranty the day you pick up the car, when you think you're done negotiating and you're in the clear. They don't bring up the warranty as part of the price negotiation, and I completely forgot about it. I got a break on the price but they made up for it on a 6 yr warranty b/c I wasn't prepared. The extended warranty is almost a necessity nowadays with all the electronics and newer engines. Costco pricing - you can get an emailed quote but it's not the lowest, so use it as leverage elsewhere.
We just bought a new Toyota, and it is my understanding that the newly designed RAV4s are in high demand, and it’s hard to keep them on the lot. Maybe that’s why there wasn’t much room to negotiate?
Costco
With the transparency of prices online most dealerships don't have a lot of room for negotiation si things are pretty much priced at the sale point. I just purchased a Toyota and spent a lot of time researching online before I bought.
Go on New Year’s Eve. be ready to close the deal. that’s probably your best option. They want to end the month and year as strong as possible!
Agreed with other posts if it’s a new model and really popular, they won’t negotiate much. It was like that a few years ago when the new Honda Pilot came out. They couldn’t keep them on the lot and no discounts.
I was with my friend car shopping the other day, unfortunately I'm visiting friends and family in Louisiana, fortunately what I can tell you is yes its end of the year and yes they are trying to get rid of inventory. Try other places. Unfortunately I've only just moved back to park ridge, wh8means my contacts are not here yet. I do know do NOT goto golf mill Ford, my friend had a horrible experience there.
Go home and they will call you. And when you get there don’t give them your name. I think they put it in a system shared by the dealerships. Tell them what you’ll pay for it.
I got Star Nissian to go down about 5k and made them up my trade in value. I talked to about 3 different people, showed them same car at other dealers for less then their sticker price and wouldn't budge until I got what I wanted. Walked out once with my husband and got a call within an hour or two later went back solo and got the deal done! Problem now is the car tax is going up and trade in value down starting January 1st so they know they have you.
If you are willing to get a gently used car, I would try Nelson Automotives in Mount prospect. No haggling. Just really great deals. We just bought a 2019 Honda HRV with 20 miles at used car prices. He had several Rav 4's too. Check his website. Heycars. com
Joe Hidalgo can help. He is a good friend and client of mine. He is the head sales manager at Racine Toyota.
We just bought a used Toyota yesterday. With the internet, it seemed to me that the consumers are so educated that the dealers can’t get away with listing hugely inflated prices. We negotiated a bit, but in the end felt great about the price we paid for a solid used car.
Go to Car Max in Kenosha. They have new Toyotas and it's no haggle. Great price on trade in as well.
Do you have a trade in? If so, now is the time. If not, yeah. there isn’t much profit on the new car side for dealers. Sounds about right. msrp is the lowest in a new car a dealer can do without losing money. Good luck!
If you decide to go used, negotiate premium oil changes and free tire rotation! Sometimes they can offer more on the service end of the deal.
I went to a toyota dealer in Schaumburg and they are real low key, no hard sell. Just very nice. I would recommend you try there. Also, they are a high volume dealership and you often get better deals at high volume dealerships. Finally, if you do have a car to trade in, try to get them to give you more for the trade in than their original offer. Often they don't lower the price of the actual car, but they will increase trade in value. Finally check all the contracts and all the financials to make sure there are no errors. I got a 2019 sedan with only 5 thousan miles on it. I did not want brand new too expensive and loses value soon as out of showroom. So I was happy with experience.
Truecar. com no negotiation needed take the invoice to the dealer
They have to make a profit too you know. They don’t make much, they are self employed
Wait til the auto show in Feb. I've heard there are good deals to be had there.
Use truecar. com. you'll get the best rate possible
Go through Costco. It was a good experience.
Find out when their fiscal year ends, they scramble for sales.
Costco.
Can't buy toyota through costco. toyota has no problem making sales. they will only come down so far and if you want a quality ride then you need to pay a little bit for it.
Bought 3 Toyota’s through Costco
If you use Costco Auto, you still have to be savvy and watch like a hawk. Go to Leader Toyota and obtain a written price on the exact car you want. Tell them you’re going to other dealers and need their best price if they wish to be in contention. Then obtain the referral from Costco. They will send you to Chicago Northside Toyota on Western near Peterson. You have to watch them like a hawk. They still try to rip you off with all kinds of add-ons. PM me if you want the whole story and tips on getting the deal you deserve.
Bredemann Chevrolet got me a great deal on my new car they have a Toyota location as well, right next door
