I am struggling with the thought of posting something so depressing in Park Ridge. I feel obligated to do so. I know this is shocking and sickening but please monitor your children. Be firm about controlling their online presence. Do they really need an Instagram (or whatever) account? This is truly dreadful. https://medium.com/@sloane_ryan/im-a-37-year-old-mom-i-spent-seven-days-online-as-an-11-year-old-girl-here-s-what-i-learned-9825e81c8e7d?fbclid=IwAR08KICPQqf646TwsGb4vCHX3ft9r5J7XkuGbTIdf5uoxomIW4a0xKI8V1U

The non technical part of this conversation with your children is what people post on line isn’t 100 percent true. Filters, fake names , fake photos. They need to know not to believe it all. It’s like the toy commercials of the 70s and 80s. The toys looked so much cooler until you got them home and play with them

Lynn Wiemeler I’m guessing you’re right, but it’s another reason to make sure kids aren’t creating additional unlocked accounts without parent knowledge.

Everyone needs to read this article. Everyone needs to have these raw discussions with their kids! Don’t stick your head in the sand. When my son was 15 a predator tried to real him and his friends in. No hidden agenda either. Just out there. Sent pics of guns to entice them. It’s everywhere and you need to be aware. They also get to your kids through bitcoin. Just FYI. Ask your kids if they know what the dark web is ? And if you don’t know. You need to learn. ASAP !

Parenting in every generation was a fearsome experience. This tech generation is even more difficult requiring new consistency, learning and vigilance. Stay strong—-parents.

Thanks for sharing. I think this article brings to light a lot of important things about today’s world. I do not have children yet but have grown up with this huge change in social media. I myself have experienced the different ways predators attempt to get to children and teens. I would like to bring up not only social media, but video games where you can play with a stranger and chat with them though a video head set. It’s a scary time to be growing up and seeing my younger cousins grow up, I realize that these are the conversations that we should be having with younger generations.
