Hi all, my aunt recently got injected with Botox because her migraines around Park Ridge. In the past she has tried everything possible before resorting to botox! Shots to her head, endless medicines, and nothing works! I feel so terrible for her because the pain affects her daily! Everything triggers her migraines from a little light, to any noise, or even a mild smell. The botox was supposed to work after 14 days but it hasn't and the headaches are now worse. than before. Has anyone had botox before that can relate? Has anybody tried CBD just for headaches? She did try THC before but it made her headache worse for some reason. Help, she is desperate! She is literally the nicest person i know and it is so sad watching her go thru life in constant pain without any relief! šš

Iād suggest the keto diet! I went through everything possible for migraines with exception of botox, nothing helped, no medicine provided enough relief. Unrelated, I started keto diet. At first migraines intensified for first 2 weeks, and then totally stopped. 100% gone! I swear I tried all sorts of diet elimination, avoiding trigger foods, none of that worked, I still had 3-5 migraines a week and survived on Excedrin numbing it down a little but creating rebound headaches. If Iām doing strict keto the migraines stay away, the second I have some minor sweet, they are back the next day
I used to have migraines that lasted three days. and now i rarely have one, my nurse friend told me to drink coffee and take advil when i feel like i am about to have one, and it worked.
Also i avoided junk foods. daily exercise helps too.

I have suffered with cluster migraines for 26 years and the only thing that has helped me often is prescription strength Naproxen 500 mg at the onset of the migraine. It doesnāt work if you wait too long. I tried many things that never worked

I get Botox injections for another condition but same area & get horribly sick once it hits the 2 week mark. Almost like flu symptoms and have trouble lifting my head. Every time I say Iām not doing it again. After about 3 1/2 weeks the injections help my condition but that week of sickness always makes me contemplate never doing it again.
Did u get really sick 2-3 weeks after starting the botox? Does cbd help with your migraines? Thanks :)
Holly- I can not recommend Dr Moore enough! He is an acupuncture chiropractor and life changer. I have recommended him to probably 100 people in Park Ridge. At least 15 of them were migraine sufferers that no longer have them or have very few. He is a game changer. Northwestern neurology recently approved acupuncture as one of the top cures for migraines after a long study. He knows what heās doing and heās excellent at it. I use to have migraines almost every week and have not one in years. I almost went on some pretty severe medicines and I am so thankful for him. Thankspically if medicines and Botox doesnāt work itās because you need someone to restructure the neck, head and upper back muscles. Best of luck! . https://www.google.com/search?q=dr%20moore&ie=UTF-8
Im not to sure if she has tried changing her diet. i will def let her know ty very much :)
Iāve suffered from migraines since I was a kid and for many years drs would just throw a new prescription at me and ask me how my diet/lifestyle is. Nothing worked- Iāve tried eliminating all trigger foods, couldnāt pinpoint anything. Finally I saw Dr Bevan out of the Womenās Center at Northwestern and she prescribed be Aimovig. In the last year Iāve had a total of 3 migraines and even now if I get a headache I can take regular ibprofen or aspirin and it will go away without taking the migraine concoction I used to. Aimovig is a shot so you have to be ok with needles but itās a miracle worker !
There are new injections or monthly pills that all but eliminate migraines. They do take 2 months to kick in, but often the first 2 months are free. One is made by Amgen and another by eli lily I believe. She need to see her doctor. These new drugs are life changing.
Has she ever tried topirmate it really helped me
I have bad migraines and I take 40mg of relpax. I tried all sorts of prescription medication and this prescription is the only thing that helps me. Has she gotten a scan of her head to make sure there is nothing else wrong? I feel horrible for her. it's the worst pain to have on a daily basis. My doctor told me botox wouldn't work for my migraines. I'm praying for some relief for her.
How terrible hope sheās better soon
Acupuncture. I would highly recommend Christina Dwyer at Eastern Vitality in Park Ridge
Chiropractor? Have heard from others who suffer from migraines that regular visits to chiropractor helped. What about acupuncture?
Check out Curable
I had horrible migraines for almost a year. I tried all the drugs and nothing worked (including the aimovig). I started doing a serious self care schedule: yoga 3xweek, physical therapy (soft tissue work in my neck) and acupuncture/cupping. I also did a few rounds of biofeedback. These things are FINALLY working. Good luck to her!
Has she tried the ear piercing? Also I use CBD for migraines and anxiety and it helps
I take Sumatriptan for my migraines.
Medications have different effects for people. What works for one might not have the same benefits on another. I see a lot of meds in this thread and I just want to warn that it might take a while for a medication to take full effect and that relief will not always work spontaneously. Some of the meds also have āheadacheā as a side effect, which is what I experience when I take sumatriptan for my migraines. So it doesnāt help me. But for some reason it really works for my aunt! I would also recommend chiropractic care. Dr. Shawn Breton at Breton Chiropractic in dt Mount Prospect is amazing at finding the root of the cause and treating it, versus just treating symptoms. I would strongly recommend trying chiropractic care at her office, whether she recommends acupuncture, therapeutic massage, or adjustments.
Havenāt read all the comments- but Iām a migraine sufferer and what i called my General/daily headaches since my teen years. I tried everything- literally!. One doc eventually told me- some people just have headaches and Iād have to live with it! In 2012 I Went to Dr. Alex at The Diamond Headache Clinic- and Iām not joking when I say he literally saved my life! We tried a few different meds and eventually got it right. Biggest issue for me was rebound headaches from taking too many over the counter meds. Itās a vicious circle you have a headache so you take a pill- it helps for a while- pain pills wears off- you get a headache from the pain pill wearing off! He will make her go cold turkey on literally everything- she wonāt be allowed to take even an Advil- itāll suck like high hell- but once she gets through it- he will find the answer. Heās the best, please have her see him ASAP. I get 1-3 migraines a year now versus 1-2 a month! Life changed! Also I Agree with comments above re all the medication advice- what works for one doesnāt work for everyone. For me I take a blood pressure tablet once a day as a preventative med- itās not for blood pressure for me cos I donāt suffer but whatever it does it helps with my headaches. If I run out- i literally feel Them coming on. So please go to a place that specializes in headaches! They will find the answer! Good luck to your aunt- I feel her misery š
My aunt and I suffer from awful migraines and nothing helped- but there is an ear piercing that actually works.
