I make a lot of hospital visits around Park Ridge. For the last few weeks all the local hospitals have been packed with people. Folks waiting on beds in hallways for rooms to open. Is there something beyond the ordinary going on? Just curious.

Lots of upper respiratory problems. Don’t know if that’s part of the issue.

Happens every year at this time of year due to viruses. Weekends also has intake of detox patients too. Very frustrating esp with an elderly loved one stuck in an ER for hours or sleeping in a hallway bc no rooms (or co-mingled with said detox pts like at LGH). Advocate/Aurora announced some new system early this year to better allocate resources and patients esp in peak periods. Curious if the money they spent is helping.

Nope, I am a NP in LTC and sent my patient out and she sat in the ER for 4 days because there were no open beds

Vaccinations for flu , shingles and pneumonia do help the masses.

Also, with UofC nurses going on strike, they are transferring out a lot of patients, filling up hospital beds at other facilities, which means less beds available to admit patients from the ER.

Pneumonia was going around at our daughter’s school and i know if parents who ended up with it too. I’ve also heard of a lingering stomach virus.
