Worse, if you lose the front plate, you have to go to a special Sec of State office. The one in Des Plaines doesn’t sell them. The closest one is on Elston.

Doesnt it make sense that both front and back are required or is it just me?

The proposed law is stuck in the rules committee in the state house and has been opposed by various law enforcement agencies. 19 states do not require a front plate (a cost savings issue apparently) . http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp

Once the brain trust in Springfield figures out that they can charge the same (or more) for a single tag instead of two, they'll change the regulation. Until then it's still the law to display two tags

If you have a fancy car you don't want to drill holes in they make a special bracket for the fancy folks. I understand the not wanting to drill holes in the fancy cars for resale purposes.
