Does anyone have a favorite small town within 3 hours of here in Park Ridge? Considering Galena, South Haven, Saugatuck, Minoquoa and Door County. Any others? We're looking for a place to spend Christmas week to start new traditions.

Grand Haven, MI. Great town lots to do. There is a small ski hill in town where the kids LOVE to go. @Mulligan’s Hallow Ski
We go to minoqua every year, and love it. but its more than 3 hours. Closer to 5 hrs
Just came home today from Saugatuck! Love it! We’ve only been there in summer so I am curious if anyone has any input in winter.
Green lake Wisconsin
Depends on what you like to do
I really like Galena- you can rent a house in Eagle Ridge and we went one winter and they had horse drawn wagon rides. The town is super cute around the holidays too.
Starved Rock State Park would be super fun- you could hike, Xcountry ski, & stay in the lodge, which has a decent restaurant, bar/grill, & indoor pool. It’s a gem!
Door County is more like 4 hours, but it is my favorite!
I absolutely love the Michigan towns but you could get stuck there with a storm. Galena is beautiful. I would pick there. http://www.midwestliving.com/.../holiday-getaway-to.../
Door county!
Depending where in Door County, 4-5 hours. But we used to go every year. and kids had a great time.
South Haven and preferably Saugatuck
I love Galena!
Galena for sure!
Saugatuck is awesome
Saugatuck and South Heaven
Door County
Union Pier just north of New Buffalo. Like the Firefly Resort and Elephant Walk Cottages. All affordable, lovely open yards, fire pits and grills and short walk to private beach on Lake Michigan
Minocqua or any of the little lake towns north of hwy 70 in Wisconsin are amazing. But you have to drive five hours. Green Wisconsin is amazing and only an hour or so northwest of Milwaukee.
Geneva Lake (Fontana, Williams Bay and Lake Geneva all have lots of fun stuff to do each winter) Ice Castles, Sledding, Skiing, Skating, etc,
Following
Yes. Lake Geneva and Williams Bay.
South Haven
We rent out our house in st joseph. Sleeps 10
South Haven has an adorable Christmas parade with Santa riding in a boat, but I think that is in early December. It is very quaint in town with all of the lights and the ice skating rink. We love it there but beware of lake effect snow. it’s a real problem.
Minoqua is 5 hrs without stopping. In a snowstorm it had taken us 8 hrs
I love Marshall Michigan. It is a small town with beautiful architecture, antique stores, boutiques and great restaurants.
Large vacation home in Galena- on 4 acres in the woods- outdoor hot tub, theatre room-& family friendly! https://www.vacationhomesofgalena.com/vacati.../timber-ridge
A lot of small towns pretty much close up by the end of fall, so you need 2 check out what is or what is not open b. 4 you a room booking
Secret of Saugatuck Suites http://www.secretofsaugatucksuites.com
Osthoff resort in Elkhart lake WI very pretty at Christmas time and not too far about 2 to 2 1/2 hrs Www. osthoff. com
I have a 3 bedroom single family in coloma michigan about 1/2 hour from saugatuck, 15 minutes away from Saint Josephs, Southhaven and Holland etc
West Dundee is cute and Antioch.
Not sure about which small town you should chose but years ago my girlfriends and I took a trip to Appleton in the fall to do a nature hike. On our way up we stopped at the biggest Christmas store I’ve ever seen. It’s called Kristmas Kringle Shoppe. It’s right off the 41, just south of Fon du Lac. So maybe pick someplace in Door Co. Just make sure you stop there to get an annual ornament to commemorate your trip!
Love South Haven!
I really really LOVE South Haven (and Door County but that is farther than 3 hrs). SH is close and tons to do. I just don't know of many lodging options.
We’ve been to SW Michigan many times; it’s our favorite. The Saugatuck/Douglas/Fennville area is perfect. Saugatuck and Douglas go all out for Christmas and even though a certain percentage of seasonal businesses close, enough stay open. Happy to talk with you about where we’ve stayed, where to look, etc. How exciting! 🎅🤶🎄❄️
I love South Haven
