How much $$ do I send with my 14yo going to DC for the week, with school in Park Ridge? Meals are covered and I'm sending him with a bag of snacks, candy, etc. Would be spending money for extra snacks, souvenirs, etc.

How much do you trust him with? That is what I would look at. How many days? How many souvenirs? If he has too much $ will he bring back change or spend it needlessly?

Does he have a smartphone? Would you be able to do a payment app on it if he does?

$100 is enough. They are very busy on the trip and please don't be disappointed if they do not get souvenir for all those family members they have to carry all their things around with them.

My son went last year for the same time frame. The meal tickets cover the meals but the kids were buying Starbucks and stuff like that. They have them on a super busy schedule so there's not a lot of time for spending money. They took them to a souvineer shop and allowed them some time to shop. They were able to leave all their purchases on the bus. I think $100 is enough but I would send $150 just in case.

My daughter went to D. C. for one day for her class trip I sent her with $200 she brought back what she didn't spend I looked at it this way when's the next time she's gonna go back? And rather have more then enough money then NOT enough to get souvenirs she wants. That's just my opinion

My son just went. I sent him with $200. He came back home with $70. He did need cash because he bought a few things from street vendors. I bought him a money belt to keep his money in! It worked well for him!

I thought all the Smithsonian museum gift shops were very reasonable and if I remember correctly there was no sales tax.

I would send $200 and I'm sure the child will bring back change. I always send my kids w more and let them keep the leftover. It's funny bc somehow they spend less on junk that way :)
