Hey all. Friendly reminder it is lice season in Park Ridge. Use tea tree shampoo daily. Put their hair up. Ask the hair salons if they are giving you a brand new washed drape (you would be surprised how some don't). Check their heads every now and then. Use hair spray since lice hate it. Have a plastic target bag in your purse so you can put their light jackets in it instead of piling it on coats. Don't put your jackets in piles at bday parties. Don't try on hats when you look at Halloween costumes. Bag your costumes and hats you do buy and put them in the freezer for 24 hours before you let them wear it. Remind your kids to not share hats, combs and to not lay on carpet at school and church. If you do get it immediately tell those your child has played with so their parents can catch it fast and tell the school so it does not spread like wildfire. Lice is no respecter of the rich or poor, clean or dirty. In fact they like clean hair. Small precautions can save you hours of hassle and tons of money. Camp Duncan was last week so it is good to be careful. Here is a pic to show you what they look like in case you have never had the joy of having it. Hoping this saves a few of you from this lovely pest!

Is there a tea tree oil shampoo you'd recommend?

I heard Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo works, but the TJ's in Park Ridge seems to NEVER have it when I'm there.

I use Suave Rosemary Mint Shampoo and when they walk out the door for school I spray down their heads, shoulders and backpacks with the fairy tales spray. Someone on here should start selling spray bottles of it made with the essential oils!

Sleepovers I stopped letting my daughter bring her own pillow and blanket because that's another way to bring them into the home.

Just add tea tree oil to your shampoo bottle Also make a small bottle with a couple drops of tea tree oil and water. Spritz in your kids hair daily. For girls braid and then spray

The robe comb works! Every time a notice comes out I would robe comb their hair just in case. It makes a noise a kills on contact and the quickest way to check for lice and get rid of them!

When 2 or more kids look at a smart phone screen, their heads are very close. often touching. Lice LOVE smart phones for this reason. Beware!

Thanks all for great suggestions. Christine Christine Speros Mayer please tell us more about this comb and where to get it? Sounds amazing. Amy Warlick good point! Will tell kids that. My first grader dodged a bullet this year bc she was close to someone with it, but 3 years ago she had it and it took 3 weeks to get rid of it thanks to my thick, curly hair. She gave it to me while we were reading together at night. All I did for three weeks was laundry, cleaning and coming out 4 people's hair every night . I am so grateful she is very aware and careful now.

We had several kids, (5) in the neighborhood that got it two years ago. It was awful. The problem is many parents do not really get rid of it on their kids hair, so it never really goes away. I spent over five hundred bucks trying to get it out of my daughter's hair and ending up having to call lice Busters. They are awesome, expensive but they get the job done.
