So, we got. our taxes done, and our tax lady was shocked cause our refund is $1000 less than last year, eventho income went up in Park Ridge. She said "something was wrong" , and we needed to talk to my husbands employer. Their "answer" is that some how Illinois changed something that effected the federal refund/withholdings. . if this was true, then surely the tax consultant would of known this, and the same thing would be happening to EVERYONE IN ILLINOIS, not just us! Im so upset and i kust wanted to know if anyone else knows anything about this or it this has happened to them?!

I do our families taxes through turbo tax and this year we got 500 less and my husband made more money this past year as well it said it was because of illinois something that was new this year probably cause illinois is broke and I filed in January and will be waiting forever I bet to get state refund. Another reason people move to different states

Same here. Made more, got back less. Our accountant wasn't even sure what the state did, but Illinois definitely made a change that's impacting everyone.

Be aware of your income. Bringing in more income could have put you into a higher tax bracket thus taxing you at a higher rate & lessening your refund.

Doesn't make more - potentially put you in a hire tax bracket? The more you make the less your refund is. Our accountant reminds us every year that if we get raises to make sure we make the proper adjustments to our withholdings.

Just spoke to my accountant. Illinois went from 5% to 3. 5% on state tax. The state tax paid in was a dedcution on federal taxes if you itemize. Huge impact on higher bracket households

Congress also let a lot of middle class exemptions expire this year.

Our accountant told us it was an increase in tax to fund Obama care.

It happened to me. The first time I ever had to pay instead of getting a refund.

Getting less back should be the goal, so you have the money throughout the year and not the government unless you need the lump sum boost (savings). I have yet to do my taxes so I'll definitely keep it in the back of my head! Usually owe IL a little (ideal) and get back a lot from the Feds (less ideal).

The more you make, the less you get back. Just the way of taxes.
