Leaning tower ymca is great! My 4 year old loves her lesson. Sign up is now open and classes start next week.

Chicago Swim School in Arlington Hts/Mt. Prospect. I've done the math and it's actually cheaper than Leaning Tower Y, Niles Family Fitness Center and Foss Swim School in Niles.

Foss Swim School in Niles offers small group classes too. My daughter is 9, and while already an avid swimmer, her strokes have improved in just one term.

My kids all swim at the Lattof YMCA. Two on swim team, 1 in lessons. All were independent swimmers by age 3. It isn't expensive for members, but is pricier for non-members. I also recommend Big Blue.

I also say Foss. My timid 3 year old now jumps in! Class size is small which gives them extra attention. They worked with us/him to get us over his initial fear of the water. He just moved up a level. Nothing but positives things to say about everyone there!

British swim school in Skokie. The deciding factor for us was that my two kids could be in the same class. The classes are split by skill not age. Both my kids were afraid of water, but my younger one was also afraid to be on his own. Since they both couldn't swim, they were in the same class. He could sit next to his big sister. She moved up before him after a few months, but he could handle it then.

We do British Swim School and really like it. Main reason is that it's continual and there are no set sessions. So, as soon as they feel your child is ready to advance to the next level, they move up. You don't have to wait until your session is over and reregister for new sessions.
