My daughter did it last year. We loved it. My daughter is use to being home with me all day, so going to school by herself was a little rough at first. I would wait in the lobby and I was allowed back in the classroom if I needed to go in. They have play time, story time, snack time and they sing songs and do crafts as well.

When my kids were little, they didn't have anything like this. we just prepared them for what school would be like and how much fun it would be to meet other kids their age and get to plan play dates, and have snack time and story time etc. and how i wanted to hear all about their day when i came back to get them. we made sure we got them used to babysitters (other than grandma) and socialized them with other family members, neighbor kids and cousins etc, that they never got upset when they had to go to school. i was very fortunate. but it was more sad for me than them lol

Park ridge park district does something similar. Nature 2's and 2's on the move. My son does it and it's great!

I felt that the class totally prepares them for preschool and from being away from mommy. At first it was very difficult because they cried and cried when I left the room and it broke my heart. It took my son longer to adjust than my daughter. It took my daughter about 2 weeks, my son about 2-3 months. Don't give up if they start crying. The teachers there were wonderful! At first I would wait in the lobby but once they got used to the class, I'd run to Target and get some shopping done.
