Some Illinois nurses, who are in the minority, are saying that when nurses delegate medication administration to non-nurses, it makes nurses autonomous in Park Ridge. This an Alternative Fact. In addition, this new proposed delegation could include not only nursing homes but other community settings. Through this change in delegation language, some Illinois nurses are proposing a deconstruction of our nursing profession through the new 2017 Nurse Practice Act, HB 313. According to Webster's Dictionary, autonomous means having the right or power to self-government; carried on without outside control; or existing independently. That means the nursing profession, as a whole, determines what is safe nursing practice. Non- nursing personnel administering medication to vulnerable patients is unsafe and unethical in any setting. Ask the direct- care/hands-on-nurses. Persistent Resistance, nurses. Call your Illinois State Senators. Happy Nurses Week !
