At risk of sounding like an ass, this happens a few times a year, but it just happened again in Park Ridge. Someone about 17-21 with a yellow clipboard at the door at 8:20 attempting to sell $16 Sun-Times subscriptions, saying it's for college. So I have no problem giving to a cause, but my weirded out sense kicked in given: there was an unmarked white van across the street with more 'yellow clipboard' folk climbing in; I never heard of the high school he mentioned; and he was exceptionally well scripted on the hard sale. Not to mention. It was 8:20 at night. Am I over paranoid, or is this scammy.

Put a No Soliciting sign on your front door. I was told that they can not ring your doorbell if you have one.

I heard someone rattling the front door (didn't ring the bell) around 8:15 but ignored bc I was getting the kids ready for bedtime. Must be the same crowd.

Also, the subscription kids aren't necessarily scammy. The kids are mostly the ones being exploited.

I had this at 630 tonight. I told her I was not interested and was in the middle of feeding my baby. She was nervous and kept looking behind her. I got a weird vibe too.

The van sat around for almost 20 minutes. To the point where I went back outside and just sat on my stoop and started calling the police - however the van drive away after I sat there for a minute. The van has a big W with tape on the drivers side of it. Not a logo, just what looks like paint removed or something. It looks like an Econoline white van. Honestly, the more I dwell on this, the more suspicious it is. If someone see's this thing staked out on their street it can't hurt to call the police.

My niece used to do this to sell magazines. She was treated ok, but it was pretty shady

The no soliciting sign doesn't stop them from ringing your bell. It is supposed to, but it doesn't.

I don't answer if I don't recognize them. And they shouldn't be out after dark.
