Community Feedback Needed close to Park Ridge. Is a district 64 wide hot lunch program something our community wants or needs? A program is being contemplated where the district would take over the hot lunch program (not pizza Fridays) where the district would offer hot lunch options to families on a pay per lunch basis. The cost, per lunch, to the parents has yet to be determined. However, if the program were to pass, I am sure the district would do its best to engage a company that would balance a quality offering with an affordable price. For purposes of this post I am looking for feedback. Please respond with Absolutely, Would be nice but not necessary or No. Please add how many children you have in the district and the school your children attend with your answer. Example: Absolutely Franklin 2

A survey was sent to all D64 parents a while back asking for feedback on these same questions. what was the outcome?

0 now, will be 2; depends-shopping for larger home. Since moving here from the suburban Boston area, I've always thought how bizarre it is here that lunch is not offered in the D64 school! since I was a child myself, MA elementary schools have offered lunch.

Tom Sotos, this question is typical of the D64 Board's mindset: Ask "the community" but actually ask "the one-third of the community that sends children to D64 schools". Meanwhile, the two-thirds of the community who pays for D64 schools but sends no children are left out of the discussion. The "good idea" of asking on the playground (! ) makes it even more inward-looking. No big surprise: Everyone answers "absolutely". I support public education, but not with a blank check. D64 is the biggest percentage of our property tax bills and has consistently jacked up its budget every year, faster than the City, the Park District and even Crook County. All the while, D64's focus has been only on families who send children to the schools and not "the community" at large.

School lunches in this country are garbage. Parents usually pack a WAY healthier lunch! What we need is a longer lunch time, asoothing atmosphere and round tables to promote conversation. Look at how lunch is done in other countries, and we are woefully behind

Yes, please. Roosevelt - 1 in the fall. And please make the lunches nutritious for both kids who pay and those who don't. And if there is a committee to help, sign me up -- I'll gladly help with sourcing.

Absolutely. Roosevelt. 1. I found it bizarre that D64 doesn't offer lunches (hot or cold would be fine) and that the substitute is to offer pizza for lunch periodically instead. I grew up in a college town, and they offered breakfast as well.

Absolutely Rossevelt 2. I'm curious if there are any low income students that rely on the hot lunch program?
