"This fall, we are asked to identify individuals who will represent us in the Illinois Senate in Park Ridge. One of the candidates for that position is Mel Thillens of Park Ridge. Thillens has served on the Park Ridge Park District Board. During a public meeting in 2015, Thillens, then the park board president, recommended to the board that the park district name one of its bathrooms after Hillary Clinton, the former first lady, U. S. senator, secretary of state and Democratic presidential candidate. During this formal meeting, another board member, Rick Biagi, added that the restrooms could have a urinal with Clinton's name on it. Whether these elected individuals dislike Hillary Clinton or not, it appears they cannot put the image of Park Ridge ahead of their own sophomoric comments at a public Park Board meeting. The people of Park Ridge deserve better from our elected representatives. Please keep this in mind when you vote for our state senator. Stupid joke for which he immediately and without coercion apologized and at which a prominent Clinton supporter on the board at the time laughed. Mel Thillens is a good man, but not a perfect one. His opponent in this race is a Madigan puppet. Let's not make our decision based on one thing one person said almost two years ago. Let's make our decision based on what is best for the future of the State of Illinois and even one more year of a Madigan-controlled state is not what is best for our future.

If Mel brings his PRPD nonsense to the Illinois senate then expect you taxes to go up and the cost of services to go up.

I won't even bother arguing the nonsensical use of the word "nonsense" in the above post, but I will point out that PRPD has increased services and stayed at or below budget while Mel has served as a commissioner. Something that cannot be said for some previous PRPD boards.

Remember that in Spring 2016, all the Republicans voted against a graduated income tax which is a fairer tax. They want to keep the flat tax which favors Rauner and his friends.

What's a fair tax to you Barbara?

I'd rather focus on a candidate's record of/ability to/capacity for results than a minor indiscretion like this. I'm tired of the tactic of hitting on people's emotions and how they feel about things. Focus on real issues and not something so trivial.

Vicki, common sense has no place in political discourse.

We need stalls / urinals named after each candidate running for office so restroom visitors can pick . now that's democracy.

MEL acted like a 12-year-old schoolboy. I have all lost all my respect for him . I've ask him to apologize publicly but he will spin out of this one I'm sure , Or just not say anything . I'm ashamed of him

Michael, you do realize that he did apologize publicly for this, right? Immediately after it happened and before anyone pressured him to do so. I think he may have even referenced acting like a twelve year old in his apology.

He apologized, but a public official should have NEVER said it in the first place. It totally disqualified him

Wow what a spin for a 12-year-old remark from a grown man running for office

So why'd you ask him to apologize? Why did you assume that he'd spin it? More important than that, though, is how many people have you voted for who have said something stupid then apologized for it? Did you vote for Joe Biden, for example? How about Barack Obama? George Bush (either one)? Bill Clinton? Richard Nixon? Reagan?

For some persons who believe that common sense has no place on this site and seem to verbally focus on the person who is posting rather then on issues, maybe another site may better meet your needs. Have a great day!

No ability to decipher sarcasm? Not cogent enough to debate using facts? What is it?

And what part of Matts comment did not exhibit common sense? Please enlighten me ASAP.
